The inspiration for having the (full) English breakfast at school came from our English lessons. We talked about British culture and a fascination for the food came shortly afterwards.

Having the kitchen at school gave us the perfect opportunity to experience the English life style first hand. In lessons we all decided which foods we would want to try out. We settled on the typical baked beans on toast with eggs, sausages, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, accompanied by the traditional black tea with milk.

The process of making the breakfast didn’t take as long as expected, probably due to the great teamwork we had in the kitchen. We started our preparations by chopping up all the ingredients that we would need, which was followed by us splitting up into little groups to do the actual cooking.

Ansgar took care of heating up the beans and cooking the tomatoes as well as the mushrooms. Rosa took care of toasting the bread with butter in a pan. The famous English tea was made by Annika, and everyone who wasn’t busy helped set the table.

The English Breakfast was a wonderful experience to get to know the English culture better. Some of us actually did take a liking to the baked beans even though they did look rather gross. Most of us weren’t very impressed with the tea and milk combination as it ended up being milk with a sip of tea (which was mainly due to the fact that it wasn’t the right kind of tea…) Anyway, we decided we’d better leave the British to that tradition.

In conclusion we can state that through this special opportunity our little English course became an even better team than it was before!
